One of the early pioneers of mind control, Jose Delgado did amazing experiments 50 years ago.
The most intesting part of his book “Physical Control of the Mind: Towards a Psychocivilised society” was the last chapter where he hoped it would be used to remove anger, depression, criminal impulses, etc to make everyone compliant and (sort of) happy.

He was unable to target specific areas of the brain at the time, but did discover repeatability: one monkey would, after someone pressed the button, go through a 1 minute sequence of actions with remarkable monotony. He would run up the wall, run down again, eat something, scratch his butt, start a fight, run around, wimper in the corner, and then go back to normal. The scientists pushed the button 10,000 times and the poor wretch repeated the same procedure over and over, with only very minor variation. (The sequence of actions is from memory, so it was probably different but you get the idea.)
He was good friends with an American Senator, who was known as one of the most left-leaning senators ever. A reader asked me to comment on Treasury secretary Bessent’s plan to buy back longer dated Treasuries in an attempt to flatten the yield curve and bring down long-term yields.
There have been schemes like this over the decades that was spearheaded by the US Treasury. I don’t recall any of them working in the long run. These buyback schemes may bring sensational headlines, but they don’t address the underlying problems.
So, no, I don’t think it’s going to matter much at all. In fact, it could cause problems in the longer run as the Treasury will attempt to fund government operations more through the shorter end of the curve, which has the Federal Reserve providing more control through overnight rates.
Whenever the US government attempts to shift part of its funding requirements to the short end of the curve, it creates distortions in the money markets as short-term debt supply, the type and duration that is contained in money market funds, begins to outstrip organic demand.
As Treasury supply begins to grow on the short end, the only way to absorb that supply is by one of two ways. And the Federal Reserve controls both of those.
One, the obvious one is to raise overnight rates to help make the short end of the yield curve more attractive to investors.
Two, Federal Reserve could just engage in more QE.
The US Treasury has little to no lasting effect in any of its mechanisms when it comes to managing the yield curve. The only true thing that the US Treasury could do is to borrow less money. If the US government working through the US Treasury wants to lower bond yields, the best way to do it is to cut back on spending. But that’s never going to happen, at least, not anymore.
There is no way in this reality that the government will cut spending. I think one can bet the ranch the government will never cut overall spending .
The Federal government doesn’t even want to pretend anymore. At least, last decade, the federal government pretended to care about budget deficits.
Now, President Trump actually prefers the inflation. He said so himself. During the ’80s and ’90s, Trump drove many businesses into bankruptcy as he sucked them dry. This month, I am closing on a 6.00% no cash DSCR refi on a house. I am closing next month on a 6.05% no cash refi on a townhome. The second loan is currently 7.525%. I’m about 150 basis points lower on the refi.
What I find interesting is that the DSCR loan rates are lower than conventional mortgage rates. I don’t remember this spread being this wide. Conforming conventional 30-year mortgage rates are about 6.7%. the floor rates on 30-year amortized dscr loans are a flat 6%.
Back in 2015, DSCR loans were more difficult to get with less investor competition for funding. There is a lot more lending( or funding) competition. I personally would never lend money out for 6% on a rental property. These private equity firms who fund these types of loans are actually receiving about 5.5% as the lending institution keeps a spread.
There’s so much money out there looking for places. It’s a good time for rental investors.
Update. I just got the appraisal back on one of the houses. In the mortgage application, I estimated the property value to be roughly $475,000. In 2022, it was appraised that $436,000. I just received the new appraisal back and the value is $530,000. I was off by $55,000. Maybe I’ll go out and buy a brand new F-150.

The Trump administration is scrambling to address spiking borrowing costs, with the Treasury abruptly announcing today that it was “increasing, by at least double, the size of liquidity support buyback operations” for bonds dated from 10 years to 30 years.
The new plan drove the US dollar to its weakest in three months and pushed yields on long bonds lower by as much as 10 basis points, moving them away from their highest level since 2007.
